Tips On How To Look After Rose Bushes

By Felice Decoster

Everyone knows that taking care of the roses is not such an easy task. When compared with other flowers, growing roses can be quite a challenge, especially for a newbie. Here are some suggestions about growing roses.

1) Trim the roses within the early spring, immediately after small red bumps appear on the rose. Those bumps are going to become new branches later.

2) Cut every branch that seems to be dead and leave only the 4-5 of them that look healthy. These stems will probably be about the width of any pencil.

3) Generate tiny incisions at the base of the bulb. This method ensures that the rose is going to have a good form.

4) Your plants have to have nutrients so use fertilizers to give that to them. Roses need additional attention and nutrition daily.. Because it is unlikely you will be able to give them daily effort, its recommended that you use slow release fertilizer. For even more flexibility, take advantage of liquid fertilizer as this only must be applied every 4 weeks. Roses must have sufficient water if they are to do well. If your location has got a limited amount of natural rain, perhaps it would be a good idea to install a water system otherwise you will be doing it yourself on a regular basis.

5) If you'd like to make exact slits, use sharp scissors. If your stems are bigger than about 1.5 centimeters you should use bigger garden shears as you do not want to have a messy cut. No matter the width or size, make sure you get it done carefully.

6) During the summer time, you will need to place a protective layer over the roses. They will be protected against the harsh sun's rays and will also ensure that the soil will be wet for a longer duration. Put a 5 centimeter covering of fertilizer for perfect results. If it is chilly, cover your flowers with a protective sheet and add an inch of garden soil at the stems to keep them healthy.

7) In the matter of dead heads, you will have to crop them to promote the growth of new buds While some roses are only flourishing in July, many others will thrive throughout all the time of the year. Try your best to keep an eye out for pests that can damage your roses. Afflicted areas of the rose bush can be taken off and then the leftover portion must be washed. Keep in mind that you can always consult your local store to find effective poisons to get rid of insects that may be damaging your roses.

8) Natural poison will not likely cause harm to other plants or even yourself. Read the directions carefully and ask if the formula is organic. Those types of solutions are generally toxic if they are not used according to the instructions. Quit fertilizing the roses at the beginning of the autumn. Your rose bushes will sprout and subsequently die in the winter season if you feed them at this time.
