How To Keep Your Septic Service Running Properly In Washington

By Mark Marabut

If your home waste system is not working properly, it can create major problems. That is why it is important to keep these systems properly maintained. Here are some helpful tips from your Washington septic tank pumping professionals, for keeping your system in good condition.

Leaky plumbing is a major reason for flooded drain fields. It does not have to be a major leak, as something like a constant drip from a faucet can eventually spell trouble. Check all plumbing fixtures for leaks, including toilet flush flaps. This will also save money on your water bill each month.

When lateral fields flood, the drainage has to go somewhere so it makes it way to your top soil. You may notice black water in your yard, and this usually has a terrible smell. In addition, it could contain bacteria that is harmful to children, pets, and guests, or anyone that accidentally comes in contact with it.

Water conservation is good for the environment and your waste system. The less water you use, the easier it is on drainage fields. Consider installing special shower heads and faucets that use less water. You can save water every time you flush if you place a bottle of water or brick in the tank of your toilet.

Be very careful about what is flushed down your toilets. Make sure to only use toilet paper that is biodegradable, also. Never flush sanitary napkins or disposable diapers. Do not flush baby wipes or cigarette butts, and check to see that your toilet cleaning products are environmentally safe.

Wipe pans, pots, and dishes, with paper towels, before rinsing in the sink. This will keep much of the grease and food particles from going down the drain. Garbage disposals are not usually a good idea unless they have the ability to fine grind garbage, so it can break down easily. Make sure to keep trees and large plants away from your drain field and have your septic tank pumped and inspected every two years or so.
